Khairy challenged to a debate on 'who should retire from politics'
PKR Youth today challenged Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin to a debate after the latter demanded that three opposition veterans retire from politics.
In a statement today, PKR deputy Youth chief Afif Bahardin proposed the debate should centre on "who should retire", whether it is the trio named by Khairy - Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, jailed opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang, or Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

In a statement today, PKR deputy Youth chief Afif Bahardin proposed the debate should centre on "who should retire", whether it is the trio named by Khairy - Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, jailed opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang, or Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
Afif said Khairy should decide on the venue and the time of the debate.
"If he does not dare to face the debate, we will fearlessly face any Umno Youth leader, who would stand up to defend Najib.
"The three leaders accused by Khairy as being involved in hate politics and wanting to split the people, are actually principled leaders who want to reinstate the direction of the nation and save Malaysia from destruction," said Afif, who is also Penang Health Committee chairperson.
He blamed Umno and BN for exploiting policies and practising tactics that created politics filled with hate and said Khairy should realise that Umno has been continuing the divide-and-rule policy practised by the British.
"The leadership of Najib is swamped by scandals like 1MDB, which has caused lack of public confidence in his administration and tarnished the country's image.
"Najib should be the one to retire (from politics) and face legal action so that all the misappropriated funds can be recovered," Afif said.
PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said Khairy's statement showed that the BN fears the three opposition veterans, who often raise public issues.
"It is better if he (Khairy) could advise Najib, the leader who is surrounded by corruption and failure in managing the country's economy, to leave politics.
"Do not continue to deceive rational minded people who can judge (for themselves) who is running the country well, and who is destroying it.
"I am confident that in the coming general election, the people will be able to assess for themselves," Nik Nazmi said in a statement.
