The special aide to a DAP assemblyperson who is suspected of committing an alleged sex crime against a woman in Penang has been arrested by police in George Town, tonight.

Northeast police chief Anuar Omar said the suspect, who is a special aide to a DAP assemblyperson, will be brought to court tomorrow for a remand order. 

According to Anuar, the suspect turned himself in at the police headquarters on Jalan Pattani with his lawyer today.

"Police visited his office and was told by his colleagues that the suspect did not show up for work for the past few days," said Anuar.

"The suspect is currently undergoing a urine test," added Anuar.

He is being probed under Section 354 of the Penal Code for assault or using criminal force with the intention of outraging the modesty of the 21-year old private college student at a carpark of an entertainment outlet in Lebuh Pantai, Penang, on July 6.

The victim, who works part-time as a waitress at Lebuh Pantai lodged a police report against the suspect on Jul 7.

The suspect was a Penang local councillor for one term before he was dropped from his post before the 2013 national polls.

DAP leaders have distanced themselves from the allegations against the suspect, urging the police to carry out a thorough investigation against the culprit.

State DAP chief Chow Kon Yeow told the media "no one is above the law, we leave it to the police to investigate".
