Where's DAP in Harapan's top leadership line-up, asks Salleh
An Umno minister has questioned the absence of DAP lawmakers in the top three positions in Pakatan Harapan's (Harapan) line-up.
Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak raised the issue in a blog posting today.
"Why is DAP not given any one of the top positions when the party has the most number of MPs in the coalition?
"Was DAP sidelined or the line-up was deliberately done to make as if the coalition is dominated by the Malays?" he asked...
"Was DAP sidelined or the line-up was deliberately done to make as if the coalition is dominated by the Malays?" he asked.
In the line-up announced past midnight, PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim was named as the coalition's de facto leader, while Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chair Dr Mahathir Mohamad was made chairperson.
Opposition leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will be Harapan president. As for DAP, the party's secretary-general Lim Guan Eng will be Harapan deputy president, while DAP vice-president from Sarawak, Chong Chieng Jen, was named Harapan vice-president.
DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang, however, was nowhere in the line-up.
Salleh, who is also Umno treasurer, then asked which of the top three leaders would have the executive power and be the "decision maker" in the coalition.
In the press conference to unveil the line-up, Harapan also revealed its logo and announced its plans in the first 100 days after taking over Putrajaya, which included abolishing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and stabilising petrol price.
"Instead of just making promises, it would be better for the opposition coalition to name its prime minister of choice first. It was weird for the chairperson to answer that they will announce the eighth prime minister first, and decide on the seventh prime minister later.
"With a coalition like this, can we trust them to lead the country? Of course not because we cannot gamble the future of the country," Salleh wrote.
He added that the opposition coalition can never match BN, which has a track record of cooperation between the different ethnic groups and tolerance between its leaders, without compromising party principles.
