Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is dismayed that the opposition is portraying the federal government as being cruel.

Responding to the claim that the government sidelines opposition-controlled states, he said the opposition failed to tell the truth with regard to the allocations channelled to Kelantan, Penang and Selangor.

“Every year, the government allocates funds for all states in Malaysia, including opposition states.

“The funds are disbursed based on population figures, for maintenance of roads, annual allocations for local councils, allocations due to shortfalls in the management account and others.

“In fact, the allocations increase on a yearly basis,” he said in a blog posting.

Najib said from 2011 to 2015, Kelantan, which is under PAS, received RM1.94 billion, including RM378.85 million for the deficit in the management account.

Whereas, he said that Penang, which is led by DAP, received RM950.44 million for the same period.

He added that the PKR-led Selangor received RM3.63 billion, which included a special annual allocation of RM25.81 million.

“These figures do not include the projects by the federal government amounting to billions of ringgit in these states such as the building of schools, hospitals, roads, affordable housing, police stations and others,” he noted.

Therefore, Najib advised opposition leaders not to make accusations against the government without evidence.

“The government is always concerned about Malaysians regardless of whether they are in opposition or BN-administered states,” he said.
