George Town police have failed to obtain an extension of remand for the special aide of a DAP assemblyperson who is suspected of a sex crime involving a young woman.

The aide was suspected of outraging the modesty of a 21-year old student at a car park of an entertainment outlet on Jalan Pantai last week.

The 50-year old former Penang municipal councillor, who was arrested on Thursday, was brought to court today after his two-day remand, granted by senior assistant registrar Ahmad Tajuddin Zain yesterday, ended.

Northeast police chief Anuar Omar said investigations into the case will continue. The suspect is currently probed under Section 354 of the Penal Code for sexual assault with the intent to outrage the modesty of the victim.

“We have obtained all the materials related to the case, including the shirt and pants of the victim,” Anuar said when asked about the police's failure to obtain an extension of the remand order.

“We have recorded the testimonies of witnesses, including those from the victim’s family members,” he added.

Anuar said CCTV recordings of the spot of the incident on the night of July 6 have also been obtained by police.

“We have looked at the CCTV recording. There is a record of the suspect walking with the victim at the club. However, the exact spot where the incident took place was not covered by CCTV,” he added.

The victim, who is identified only as Tan, studies in a private college but works as a part-time waitress at an entertainment club on Jalan Pantai.

She held a press conference with Parti Cinta Malaysia president Huan Cheng Guan in Air Itam yesterday, accompanied by her 33-year old boyfriend, known only as Yeoh.

She claimed to have “crucial evidence” of the alleged criminal act - the shirt and pants she wore on the night of the incident - where the suspect reportedly ejaculated on after masturbating in front of her and demanding to have oral sex with her.

She also claimed that the suspect wanted to settle the matter with her, which she rejected, saying “I am insulted by the offer”.

The suspect is represented by a lawyer, Gnasegaran Egamparam, who was quoted in The Star today as saying “All my client wants is a fair investigation”.
