A Form One student has been arrested in Kuching for allegedly lacing his classmate's food with cockroach poison.

Sarawak CID chief Dev Kumar said the 13-year-old suspect was detained at his house in Sri Aman this afternoon.

"We have arrested the 13-year-old schoolboy and seized a box of roach poison," he was quoted as saying by Star Online.

The case has been classified under Section 328 of the Penal Code for causing hurt by poisoning and the motive is still being investigated.

Dev said school staff took the victim to the Sri Aman Hospital after he began vomiting minutes after consuming food given to him by his classmate.

He added that the victim's father lodged a police report on the incident.

"An initial probe showed that the suspect brought a container of noodles and roach poison to school.

"The suspect allegedly mixed the poison into the noodles and gave it to the victim.

"The victim began vomiting a few minutes later and a teacher was alerted before he was rushed to the hospital," he added.

Dev said the suspect panicked and ran from school after the incident but police located his house address.
