Barisan Alternatif (BA) Youth will submit a memorandum to the Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) this Wednesday to protest against the Internal Security Act (ISA) and to mark the 100th day of detention of the six reformasi activists under the Act.

PAS Youth leader Mahfuz Omar said today this was one of BA's plan to mobilise youth to fight for justice and 'free themselves'.

"We are appalled at the way our youth are treated when they are active in politics," Mahfuz told malaysiakini at the Parliament House lobby.

"We want everyone to know that youths must not be seen as anti-national when they are in fact anti-corruption and anti-abuse of power," he said.

The six activists and politicians being held under the ISA are Keadilan's vice president Tian Chua, the party's youth leaders Mohamad Ezam Mohd Nor, Dr Badrul Amin, Lokman Noor Adam, Saari Sungib and malaysiakini columnist-cum-film director Hishamuddin Rais.

The six, being held at the Kamunting Detention Centre in Taiping, Perak, were among ten others who were arrested under the ISA which allows for detention without trial, on April 10 and 11.

According to Inspector-General of Police Norian Mai, the six had threatened national security and had sought to topple the government via militant means.

Mahfuz said the memorandum will also include BA's complaints against the police for alleged abuse of power when opposition ceramah and peaceful assemblies in Kedah, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan were disrupted by riot police using water cannons and tear gas.
