55 police officers in Malacca probed since January

Malacca police have started investigations on 42 cases related to violation of the law or other offences involving senior officers and lower ranked personnel in the police force since January.

State deputy police chief Ruslan Hasan said the 42 cases involve 49 police officers who are suspected of being involved in various crime or misuse of powers in administration or drug abuse.

Ruslan said the figure was, however, lower compared with 55 cases involving 10 senior officers and 61 personnel for the same period last year.

“We view the involvement of police officers in crime seriously, including senior officers. Action will be taken on anyone involved in criminal activities, misuse of power or drug abuse. Action taken against them shows the commitment of the police force to not compromise or defend those found guilty.

“All cases will be investigated carefully by the disciplinary board or special committee that will be set up from time to time according to the classification of cases,” he told reporters after the Malacca police headquarters monthly gathering today.
