Umno Youth members had confronted their counterparts from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) yesterday in order to safeguard their party's dignity and image said its Federal Territory chief Razlan Rafii.

Razlan said the move was also to prevent a repeat of the "Adam Adli incident" - in reference to the former student activist's action of lowering a flag with Najib's image, hung outside the Umno headquarters during a protest for greater academic freedom in December 2011.

"We knew that they were coming. So we waited and we decided that they should not set foot here (at PWTC).

"We were upholding our party’s image. As the federal youth group, it is our right to defend our party’s image," Razlan told a press conference at PWTC today.

"We do not want another Adam Adli incident where he took down our flag. That was disrespectful."

The group of some 100 Umno Youth members had yesterday prevented the Bersatu Youth delegation, comprising some 30 members from entering the iconic building, which is also the Umno headquarters.

"Moreover, the Armada (Bersatu Youth) members came with provocative placards," said Razlan, adding that there was no need to do so if the true intention was only to deliver an invitation to the Nothing to Hide 2.0 forum.

At the same time, Razlan also denied that his members had acted aggressively and punched a Bersatu exco member during the face-off.

"There were only pushing and shoving. No one threw any punches and it was all recorded.

"They should have acted professionally and not lie about what happened," said Razlan, adding that Umno Youth had not lodged any police report over the incident.

The police had ordered both groups to disperse at about 4pm yesterday and Bersatu Youth members had subsequently lodged a report at the Dang Wangi district headquarters.

Bersatu Youth exco member Ashraf Mustaqim Badrul Munir had also alleged that he was punched during the incident.
