Former Selangor menteri besar Khalid Ibrahim has alleged PKR lawmaker Zuraida Kamaruddin of using her position to lobby state government agency Yayasan Selangor to defer its attempt to collect outstanding rental from a firm owned by a party grassroots leader.

However, the Ampang MP has denied acting on behalf of the firm.

Khalid, in a message relayed to Malaysiakini via his aide Faekah Hussein, said Yayasan Selangor provided adequate consideration for the issue to be resolved and payment to be made.

"Zuraida has been using her position to delay (the payments)," he said.

Khalid was asked to comment on a Yayasan Selangor report which he had signed on Sept 17, 2013. The document was leaked by a group known as Inspirasi Melayu Gombak (Impak) on July 24.

Zuraida and a former PKR lawmaker were mentioned in the report. The report also mentioned that the firm owed Yayasan Selangor rental and deposit payments amounting to RM233,830.00.

"Based on a discussion with Zuraida (and another former elected representative) on Oct 22, 2013, they will resolve the debt issue and the MB will help with this," read the report.

The debt was to be paid by Sept 5, 2013 but Impak claimed that no payment was made.

Khalid's notes next to his signature read: "Proceed with legal action."

According to Impak, no legal action was taken against the firm. Khalid vacated the menteri besar's office on Sept 22, 2014.

Meanwhile, Zuraida denied being an intermediary for the firm and was puzzled as to why her name was mentioned in the report by Yayasan Selangor.

"I don't know why my name was mentioned with regard to the debts between the landlord (Yayasan Selangor) and the tenant," she told Malaysiakini.

She also denied ever assisting the firm, which belongs to a PKR grassroots leader from Selangor.

"I hope this is not part of a smear campaign against me," she added.

Malaysiakini has contacted the PKR grassroots leader and is withholding his identity and the name of his firm pending comment.

Malaysiakini contacted Yayasan Selangor for their response to this matter but was told that the person who can comment on this was not available. Subsequent attempts to contact them failed.

Malaysiakini also attempted to contact the Selangor MB's office and was told to contact Selangor government legal adviser Nik Suhaimi Nik Sulaiman.

The news portal was then directed to email him after calling his office. There was no response to the email at the time of publishing.
