Johor BN chairperson Khaled Nordin has used the analogy of reconstructing a dilapidated house to poke fun at Pakatan Harapan’s decision to select former Umno politicians for its leadership line-up.

He said it was funny that the opposition had depicted the country as a failing state in need of saving from the ruling party, when they intend to use former leaders from the same party to fix the country.

“Let’s say we have a house and the house is supposedly leaking, damaged and needs to be rebuilt...because the whole thing is already unsafe and unsuitable to be lived in.

“To rebuild that house, if you think logically, we must have strategies and phases, we do one by one. We rebuild it using new builders, who are better and smarter.

“But what is amusing to us, is that after they (opposition) have accused this country of being destroyed by the ruling government, they themselves want to rebuild using former leaders from the ruling party,” Khaled, who is also Johor Menteri Besar, said in his speech at the Johor BN convention today.

He said it was as if the opposition was asking the same people who built the dilapidated house in his analogy to rebuild it.

Was that house not built by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, de facto opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim as well as former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin, he asked.

If that was the case, what would the difference be, he added.

‘Narrow-minded’ way of thinking

The opposition, he said, have a narrow-minded and “idiotic” way of thinking, pointing to DAP’s objection to development projects in Pengerang, Johor.

“Just because you do not agree with the state government, even projects that are beneficial to the rakyat, you want to stop,” Khaled said.

He would not be surprised if the opposition halted all development projects out of spite because the projects were initiated by BN and not them, he said.

The opposition in Johor, he said, have also never given constructive suggestions or development plans for Johor throughout this term.

“They have never told the rakyat what they will do with Johor (if they win).

“DAP and their friends have no plan for Johor, for its economy, for Malays in Johor, for religious education in Johor, or even Chinese and Tamil schools in Johor,” he said.

However, he said, not many of the rakyat realise this, which is why he urged Johor BN members to work hard to “expose” these issues.

“The rakyat must be guided to see and judge the truth.

“We cannot let the opposition sleep soundly every night. We must haunt their nights with all sorts of nightmares,” he said.

BN must show that they are not “weak” or “naive” by attacking the opposition with basis to put them on the defensive, he said.

“We are not passive. We have all sorts of weapons we can use to defeat them,” he said.
