Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Youth has urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to immediately probe Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's wealth instead of waiting to establish a "basis" to do so.

Amanah Youth vice-chief Shazni Munir Mohd Ithnin said it was wrong for MACC chief Dzulkifli Ahmad to be non-committal towards investigating the claims without having initiated a probe.

"Why is it so difficult to start the investigations? How can the MACC conclude that a case has no good or strong basis when the investigation has not even started?" asked Shazni when contacted today.

Shazni and several Amanah Youth leaders hand-delivered a letter to the MACC headquarters this morning to demand that the graft-busters initiate investigations since a report had been lodged.

On Friday, Dzulkefli said that his men will only probe Zahid if there was "basis" to the reports that have been lodged so far.

Earlier this month, Mahathir had claimed that Zahid failed to provide a clear answer on the alleged RM230 million in the latter's bank account when asset declaration exercise to the former premier in 1996.

Shazni said that Amanah Youth had written to the MACC today urging them to treat all cases fairly and investigate without fear or favour.

"We did not want the MACC to be seen as a biased entity. As such, the MACC has to treat all cases in a fair manner... although the person involved (Zahid) is the No 2 leader in this country," he said.

Zahid has maintained that he is "free of corruption" and had acquired his wealth during his time in the corporate sector, but nevertheless said he was willing to be investigated.
