The US government have agreed to name the chief financial officer of Red Granite Pictures as the "independent" fiduciary to oversee the company, according to a report.

The deal to put Randal Hermann in charge of the production firm's operations and finances was made in a court filing over the weekend, according to Variety, an entertainment magazine.

It further reported that Red Granite and prosecutors have stated that Hermann would facilitate ongoing settlement talks and support Red Granite's continuing operations.

The magazine quoted former federal prosecutor and asset forfeiture expert Lucas Rowe as saying "it’s extremely abnormal to leave an executive of a company permeated by fraud in charge as your fiduciary".

Red Granite is the subject of a US Department of Justice (DOJ) civil suits to seize assets the latter alleges were acquired using misappropriated 1MDB funds.

The DOJ wanted to seize profits Red Granite made from "The Wolf of Wall Street" and other films, which it claimed were financed using the allegedly stolen 1MDB monies.

Red Granite has denied knowingly receiving 1MDB funds.

The DOJ has applied to put its suit to seize the Red Granite profits, as well as 12 other 1MDB-linked suits on hold, so as not to jeopardise criminal investigations on the matter.
