Gerakan challenges Kit Siang to contest in Penang

Gerakan has challenged DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang to contest against state BN chairperson Teng Chang Yeow in Penang in the 14th general election (GE14).

Its president, Mah Siew Keong said the central committee had decided to field Teng as candidate for a Penang state seat in a bid to wrest control of the state from the DAP.

"Before this, we chose not to nominate Teng so as to make way for new faces but to challenge Kit Siang, we have decided to field Teng as a GE14 candidate in Penang," he told reporters after chairing the Gerakan central committee meeting here today.

Last Tuesday, Teng, who is also Penang Gerakan chairperson urged the DAP veteran leader to leave his Gelang Patah constituency and challenge him to face voters in Penang.

Teng said if Kit Siang were to contest in Penang, he would not hesitate to take the opportunity to regain the state from the DAP.

Meanwhile, Mah said he had prepared the names of candidates who had been shortlisted to contest for parliamentary and state seats in GE14.

"From the grassroots to committee levels, we are prepared to help BN achieve victory in GE14," he added.
