A memorial service for former DAP secretary-general Kerk Kim Hock will be held in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.

DAP vice-president Teresa Kok said the event, to be held at the Kuala Lumpur-Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall at 8pm, was a chance for the public to pay tribute to "a great Malaysian son" and "true patriot".

"Those who knew Kerk knew him to be steadfast, principled and honest. He was a rock of the party during its darkest period...

"We are grateful for his guidance and contribution to the party, and wish to demonstrate our appreciation by honouring him at a memorial event tomorrow," Kok told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

She said top Pakatan Harapan leaders are expected to be in attendance. National laureate A Samad Said will recite poetry at the event.

Kerk was a mechanical engineer-turned-politician who once represented Pasir Pinji and Kota Melaka in the Dewan Rakyat. He served as DAP secretary-general from 1999 to 2004.

He died on Aug 9, at the age of 61, after a 15-year battle with cancer.
