An aide to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's wife Rosmah Mansor has criticised those condemning MACC's raid on Universiti Selangor (Unisel) and Mentri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI).

In a statement, Rizal Mansor said the raids were not orchestrated to tarnish the image of the Pakatan Harapan-led state government.

“If there is 'nothing to hide', allow the investigation to proceed. Give your cooperation and do not make unwarranted allegations against the authorities.

“What is there to be afraid of? This is the time to show the transparency and sincerity you have been peddling all this time,” he added.

Rizal said though the opposition claims it is prepared to be investigated on allegations of corruption, dissatisfaction is voiced when the authorities swing into action according to the law.

He also accused the opposition of practising double standards when it involves government officials or BN politicians, such as the Felda case and the housing issue in Johor.

“Suddenly, the opposition supports the MACC's actions (in these cases).

“In fact, the opposition goes one step further in making the conclusion that those investigated are guilty even before this is proven in court,” he said.

When it concerns the opposition, Rizal said, everything is regarded as a conspiracy, abuse of power or plot against them.

“Does this mean they cannot be touched? It is crystal clear they are hypocrites.

“The investigation (concerning Unisel and MBI) has just started, and there are already numerous excuses and allegations.

“This shows (Selangor Menteri Besar) Azmin Ali and his minions do not walk the talk,” he added.

Yesterday, MACC carried out simultaneous raids on five locations in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, which included Unisel's main campus and office, two offices belonging to contractor Jana Niaga Sdn Bhd and the MBI office.

MACC officers confiscated 10 boxes of documents related to the payment made by MBI to Jana Niaga for maintenance work of student accommodations at the Unisel main campus in Bestari Jaya.

The Star quoted sources as claiming that MBI paid Jana Niaga via two transactions of RM10 million and RM6 million in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

“Initial reports received by MACC showed MBI had paid Jana Niaga even though its contract had been terminated by Unisel.

“The sources added the MACC probe focused on reasons why payments were made even though Jana Niaga failed to fulfil the contract agreement for the work done in Unisel in 2012,” it stated.

Following this, the strategic communications director in the menteri besar's office Yin Shao Loong claimed that the agreement involving Unisel and Jana Niaga did not involve Azmin personally.

He also claimed that the MACC's raids were intended to tarnish the state government's image.

Meanwhile in a joint statement, MBI and Unisel both said they would fully cooperate with the MACC.

"Unisel and MBI will continue to cooperate with the MACC and produce any evidence and give any statements required to help the MACC.

"This can unravel any allegations and accusations of corruption that is being made against MBI and its subsidiaries," the two institutions said.
