S'gor PAS ready to rumble in 42 state seats
Selangor PAS said it was capable of fielding 42 candidates for the state legislative assembly election and was ready to clash BN and former allies.
"Selangor PAS is ready for multi-cornered fights during the next general election.
"We are ready to contest all seats that will be contested by BN or Pakatan Harapan," Selangor PAS commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi told a press conference today in Shah Alam.
However, the number of candidates the party will actually field would be determined by the PAS central committee.
Sallehan confirmed that his party has set their sights on Gombak, a parliament seat held by PKR deputy president and Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali.
In the 2013 elections, PAS fielded 21 state candidates in Selangor and won 15 seats.
Apart from the Gombak area, it is unclear which are the 21 seats which PAS is coveting.
No manifesto yet
Sallehen said the party's confidence in tackling more seats this time round was based on the data collected by the party and after gauging the preparations made by the party's machinery.
"(Based on this) we reaffirm that we are ready to place at least 42 candidates in the upcoming general election," he said.
What Selangor PAS' election pledges, Sallehen said this was still under discussion.
This announcement came amid attempts by some PKR leaders to forge an electoral pact with PAS.
In response to a question, Sallehen confirmed that the party was still open to negotiations with other parties.
"PAS has never closed the doors to discussion with PKR or other parties. We are just not open to talking with BN, as we are contesting against them," he said.
However, he said there have been no such talks thus far.
Even though PAS won 15 seats in the last general election, placing them ahead of PKR's 14, the latter was allowed to lead the Pakatan Rakyat state government in Selangor.
