PKR Youth's national deputy chief Dr Afif Bahardin, who is based in Penang, believes that PKR should continue negotiations with PAS.

However, Penang PKR Youth has a different stand on the matter.

Its chief Asrol Sani Abdul Razak said the wing welcomed and supported Pakatan Harapan's presidential council's decision last night to end cooperation with PAS immediately.

"We urge each component party in Harapan to take the necessary steps to consider the presidential council's decision and stop any negotiation with PAS,” he added in a statement.

Afif, on the other hand, had claimed that those who do not support PKR's cooperation with PAS to avoid three-cornered fights are “agents of BN” attempting to break-up the coalition.

The Penang executive councillor was supportive of PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, who said talks with PAS would continue as three-cornered fights translate into victory for BN.

Contacted later, Afif said he was merely defending the need for one-on-one fights in the coming general election.

He also did not see anything wrong with Penang PKR Youth's stand with regard to ending cooperation with PAS.

"I support Harapan's decision on PAS as our party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail was one of the signatories of the matter last night.

"We are not saying there will be three cornered fights with PAS in all 222 parliament seats but PKR hopes to negotiate with PAS on those which may face the situation," he added.

Differences over this issue had been simmering for a long time, and the matter boiled over last week after PKR lawmaker William Leong resigned from the party's political bureau in protest over the continued talks with PAS.
