PKR vice president Mohd Rafizi Ramli appears to be unfazed after being falsely accused of being disciplined by his party.

He said he is not surprised because he had faced the same situation before, whenever there is a clear disagreement within the party leadership.

“A few PKR leaders like to give the wrong impression to the media under the pretext of being ‘a source within the party’ to ensure that their view is taken as the majority view even though it contradicts what was actually discussed or decided by the political bureau or leadership council […]

“As long as these two or three political bureau members are undisciplined and feed misinformation to the media and party members, the situation would continue to become muddled.

“That why following the Sarawak state election and the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections, I have decided that it is more beneficial to spend my time and energy drumming up PKR and Pakatan Harapan’s campaigning in marginal seats than to correct the misinformation spread by these two or three political bureau members,” Rafizi said in a statement today.

He warned that with the 14th general election looming, the party should be focusing on preparations to face the election instead of any political news that would not be helpful in defeating Umno and BN.

He said that in July and August, he had given political speeches 61 times in 46 marginal parliamentary and state seats nationwide, and videos of the speeches had been viewed over 1.1 million times on Facebook and on Youtube.

“I am confident that the responsibility of seeing voters on the ground and passing on information is more important than entertaining unverified news that had been invented by sources who dare not have their names published,” he said.

Yesterday, the Chinese-language daily Sinchew Daily carried a report claiming that the PKR political bureau had carried out PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim’s order to issue a "stern verbal warning" to Rafizi, and that Rafizi risks being expelled from the party if he continues to “make noise”.

However, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution had denied the report.

The report came in the wake of Rafizi’s Aug 27 statement arguing that PKR should hold a special congress to decide on whether to continue to hold talks on possible cooperation with PAS.

In his 2,000-word statement, he also listed the PKR leaders who purportedly supported or opposed the talks.
