PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli has come under fire for his criticism of former Bersih chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan.

The electoral watchdog's secretariat manager Mandeep Singh launched a series of salvos against the Pandan lawmaker on Twitter for his remarks.

"As long as I have known Ambiga, never once has she asked the people to vote against PH (Pakatan Harapan). She criticises you people (those in Harapan) because she wants you guys to win (the election).

"And now you accuse her of getting involved in your internal faction problem? And you accuse her of being anti-PH? What do you mean?" Mandeep asked.

Rafizi had questioned Ambiga's neutrality as a civil society leader after the national human rights association (Hakam) president criticised the opposition for bickering in the open ahead of the next general election.

The PKR leader described Ambiga's remarks as "unfair, biased and misinformed".

"I am not surprised (at) her views because she had always been against Pakatan Harapan from day one.

"I feel Ambiga should have engaged more leaders from PKR and Harapan to get a more balanced view and assessment, because currently her views are confined to what she gets from (third-party sources).

"Being a civil society leader, while she is entitled to her views, she cannot be seen as endorsing a particular faction's view just because she is closer to them," Rafizi told the Malay Mail Online.

'Stop making enemies of allies'

However, Mandeep claimed that to accuse Ambiga of siding with his rivals revealed Rafizi's inability to accept criticism from other quarters.

Similarly, lawyer and activist Syahredzan Johan also disagreed with Rafizi's claim that Ambiga had been opposed to Harapan from the onset.

Describing this as a "most ridiculous statement", he tweeted: "Some people should stop making enemies of allies."

Differences in PKR boiled over with regard to whether the party should continue engaging with PAS to form an electoral pact.

Rafizi is of the opinion that such negotiations undertaken by PKR deputy president Azmin Ali should be stopped and Harapan should prepare for three-cornered fights in the coming general election.

Last week, Ambiga told Malaysiakini that three-cornered fights could see BN reclaiming its two-thirds majority in Parliament, which the ruling coalition has been denied in the last two general elections in 2008 and 2013.
