Newly minted Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairperson Awang Adek Hussin said he will work on restoring the agency's image and bringing back administrative integrity.

"During my first meeting earlier, I stressed that focus must be given to Mara's administration to avoid a bad perception of Mara in the future," he said during a press conference after clocking in for the first time today.

Awang Adek, a former deputy finance minister, said the question of integrity was important to him because of his background in the finance ministry.

He replaces Annuar Musa as Mara chairperson following allegations of graft and abuse of power levelled against the latter.

During Annuar's tenure, Mara's subsidiary Pelaburan Mara Bhd (PMB) had sponsored Kelantan football club Red Warriors.

At the material time, Annuar was also president of the Kelantan Football Association.

Another major controversy surrounding Annuar's tenure as Mara head revolved around the agency's procurement of properties in Australia, which are the subject of graft probes there.

In a related development, Yusof Yacob, the acting Mara chairperson during Annuar's suspension, said a report on the football sponsorship affair has been submitted to Rural Development Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Yusof said that the investigation was completed last month and it was now up to Ismail Sabri to take further action.

"We have completed investigations and our findings have been compiled. The report has been submitted to the minister in charge (of Mara)," he said during the same press conference.
