NGO Pengasih Malaysia, a drug rehabilitation centre, has sought the assistance of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, the corporate sector and public to help ensure that their proposed facility in Cinta Manis in Bentong, Pahang, is safe and properly equipped.

They need RM14 million to have the complex in Cinta Manis to be ready and are now seeking financial support from the government, corporate sector and members of the public.

They have been asked by Khazanah Nasional subsidiary, STLR Sdn Bhd, to move out from the present premises in Bukit Tunku, which Pengasih has been occupying since 1993.

Pengasih board of trustees member, Shahrir Subki, said it is not that they do not want to move out, but want to ensure that the place in Bentong is safe, conducive and properly equipped.

"This is to ensure the safety of our clients (the drug addicts) in their rehabilitation process as they need a safe place. Having a good environment also helps in their rehabilitation.

"At present, the place is not safe as there are wild boars roaming and insects there. The whole complex needs to be repaired and equipped. Unfortunately, we do not have the funds to complete it," Shahrir said.

He said as an NGO that has helped the government in the rehabilitation of drug addicts, he hoped Najib, who is also the finance minister, would help look into their predicament.

Shahrir also claimed there was no certificate of fitness for the Bentong facility.

Also present was Pengasih president Mohd Yunus Pathi and its adviser, Misah Nor.

Yunus said they visited the site in Bentong in March 2016 and found it was not conducive and not built according to international standards for drug addicts.

After Pengasih refused to move out of its current premises, STLR filed a suit in the High Court in Kuala Lumpur.

The matter came up for case management before High Court registrar A Pavani today, and Pengasih also held a peaceful protest outside the court complex. 

Pavani fixed Oct 12 for case management for the parties involved to file relevant documents for defence.

STLR in its statement of claim filed last month said it bought the two plots of land in Cinta Manis, and built the facility according to Pengasih's specification, with the agreement that Pengasih would vacate the present land.

The company claimed that the certificate of fitness could not be issued due to the failure of Pengasih office bearers in signing various documents with the local council, including Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Indah Water Konsortium, and other related authorities.

It further claimed that the company and Khazanah had fulfilled their obligations and it was the defendants' actions in failing to sign the relevant documents that resulted in the non-issuance of the CF.

SLTR alleged that despite various meetings held with Pengasih and rectification of the purported defects, the defendants failed to give their cooperation, resulting in the facility being abandoned and ending up in bad shape since Oct 2015.

The company is seeking a court order to get the defendants, including Pengasih office bearers, to sign the relevant documents, or if they refused to do so, the court registrar can sign the document to facilitate the issuance of a CF.

It is also seeking an order for Pengasih to hand-over the vacant lot at Bukit Tunku to them and other relief deemed fit by the court.
