PKR has dismissed rumours that its secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution has stepped down from his position.

The party's communications chief Fahmi Fazil said that this was untrue.

"We have not received any correspondence to indicate such," Fahmi told Malaysiakini.

According to a message that has been circulating on messaging applications today, Saifuddin was said to have stepped down due to his "disappointment" with a recent statement by PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

In recent weeks, PKR has been struggling to present a united front following internal disagreements on whether a deal should be struck with PAS.

It is understood that Saifuddin is in the process of returning from abroad.

Some PKR leaders who are close to Saifuddin also said that the rumours were untrue and attributed its spread to the current climate in the party.
