PAS, in justifying its friendly relationship with Umno, has often cited its brand of "matured politics" compared to other opposition parties.

However, Amanah Youth deputy chief Faiz Fadzil said PAS' "matured politics" was notably absent in what he described was PAS' attempt at racial fear mongering against Pakatan Harapan.

Faiz said this in response to PAS Youth chief Khalil Abdul Hadi who declared a vote for Harapan was equal to a vote for the multiracial, but predominantly Chinese party DAP.

"The statement that a vote for Harapan is a vote for DAP is a reiteration of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's statement at the Umno general assembly in 2016, where he said the master of Harapan is DAP.

"The people, particularly PAS supporters, should hopefully open their eyes to PAS' attitude and the party becoming a walking stick for Umno," Faiz said in a statement yesterday.

Faiz said a vote for Harapan was ultimately a vote for PKR, DAP, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and Amanah.

He added the matching statements by PAS and Umno showed that the former was not able to uphold the people's aspiration for change in the country.

"Voting for PAS is the same as voting for Umno which has all this while fought in the name of racism.

"Playing on racial sentiment is not considered matured, and does not bring harmony to the nation," he said.

PAS' Kuala Nerus MP Khairuddin Aman Razali had similarly asserted that a vote for Harapan was a vote for DAP.

The barrage from PAS came less than a week after Bersatu strategist Rais Hussin said a vote for PAS was tantamount to a vote for Umno.

Meanwhile, DAP Youth executive secretary Muhammad Shakir Ameer Mohideen also criticised PAS for allegedly using Umno's script to attack DAP.

"I see that PAS is out of ideas when they use Umno's script from a time when even PAS and Umno were not on the same page," he said in a statement.

Shakir said when PAS was part of Harapan's predecessor Pakatan Rakyat, it had also benefitted from the cooperation from DAP.

"PAS claims to champion Islam but its struggle is really to attacking all those it does not agree with," he said.

Shakir stressed that DAP was consistent in abiding by the Federal Constitution on matters of Islam and Malays.
