PAS may be aiming to win 40 parliament seats in the next election, but its information chief Nasrudin Hassan said the party should get into the mindset of a "government in waiting."

"PAS together with Gagasan Sejahtera is moving towards the 14th General Election and is prepared to win the seats it contests.

"PAS will carry the responsibility of building a welfare state, that is peaceful and developed with Islam.

"The mind, spirit, and body of PAS leaders, members, and all their supporters need to be placed in a position of a 'government in waiting'," Nasrudin said in a Facebook post today.

PAS is currently part of a third force coalition with Umno-splinter group Parti Ikatan Negara (Ikatan).

The Islamist party has since its muktamar this year insisted that it would be winning at least 40 parliament seats, as well capture five state governments – Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Perak and Selangor.

Its partner Ikatan, however, does not have a significant presence in national politics.

PAS' allies-turned-foes in Pakatan Harapan have, in an effort to discredit the Islamist party, painted it as a potential partner in an Umno-led government.

PAS has denied that it will cooperate politically with Umno, although the two parties have been working together on matters regarding Islam.
