The MACC is out to spread its anti graft message on a large scale and in fanfare style in conjunction with its 50th anniversary this year, with the launching of its new iconic headquarters at Presint 7, Putrajaya on Oct 1.

The event kicked off today with a prelude, which witnessed the launching of two LRT coaches on the Kelana Jaya Line, painted with the theme Jerung atau bilis dalam jaring kami (Big fish or small, we will get you).

The thematically designed LRT coaches were launched by both the MACC chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad and Prasarana president Azmi Abdul Aziz at the Bank Rakyat Bangsar LRT station today.

"For the first time in history, MACC has chosen the LRT to spread its anti-graft message. Our message is strongly emblazoned on the inside and outside of the coaches," said Dzulkifli. 

With a 250,000 ridership daily along the Kelana Jaya line, he believes a total of five million passengers will be exposed to the visual impact of the message.

On Sept 17, MACC will hold an anti-graft carnival at Dataran DBKL followed by a nationwide convoy dubbed Kembara jelajah anti rasuah (or Kejar) according to him.

Dzulkifli said the convoy will see a group of high-ranking MACC officers travelling in a bus accompanied by 40 superbikes to spread the anti-graft and "thank you" message to the rakyat.

"We will kejar (chase after) all Malaysians to be with us, not just chase after graft offenders," he quipped.

"We will begin our road campaign from Putrajaya, and travel to Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Malacca, Johor, Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, and Perak. We will then stop for a break and then proceed to Penang, Perlis and return to Putrajaya," he added.

He also said the convoy is scheduled to stop at Menara Kuala Lumpur on Sept 30 to witness a jump event by an internationally known stuntman, who will jump off the tower with the MACC flag.

"But it does not stop there, MACC has previously announced the month of October as the anti-graft month. We will help to carry forth the anti graft message with many more events in the month," he said.

"It includes theatre performances involving local artistes to be held at the Dewan Bahasa and Pustaka from Oct 18 to Oct 21, he said.

When asked about the source of funding for the anniversary celebrations, given MACC faced a slash in budget allocation this year, he said it will only use funds from its annual budget.

"When we asked for federal funds, we asked for it to be channeled into enforcement, prevention, and education.

"We are only using the existing allocation given to us," he added.

Citing the anti-corruption promotional messages painted on the LRT coaches launched today, he said MACC did not fork out any money, as it works with strategic partners.

"You just have to work smart (in getting strategic partners to fund you)," he added. 

MACC's allocation for this year was slightly reduced to RM251.22 million as compared with RM251.78 million last year.
