The Shah Alam High Court has ordered an interim stay of eight days over plans to demolish a 100-year-old home in Rawang.

It was previously reported that the Sidhu family, occupants of the home since the 1960s, were to vacate the premises before Sept 20.

However, on Monday, the court granted the family's application for a stay, and now have until Sept 28 to vacate the premises.

"The judge will listen to both parties on Sept 28, and we will act on the instructions, once a ruling is made," said Jimmy Sidhu, when contacted by Malaysiakini.

Jimmy is the fifth generation of Sidhus to live in the house, which his grandfather purchased in 1960.

In the years that followed, the house title for the plot the Sino-Malay-Palladin house sits on has gone missing.

Without proper documentation, a mining company that owns surrounding lands requested the family move out to make way for quarrying works, thus prompting a legal battle.

Meanwhile, efforts have since been made to determine the building's heritage status.

Jimmy said the National Heritage Department has made visits to the house in the last few weeks, and is optimistic the visits will help build his case against the demolition.

He claims the house is the first in the country to have electricity.

Rawang, then Ulu Selangor, was the first town to have electricity, in order to power local mining activities.

"With efforts made to highlight our case, our home has become somewhat of a "tourist hot spot," he said, as over 250 people have visited his house in recent weeks.
