The Selangor government is working hard to draw US investors to the state and not the other way around, Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali said today.

"This morning, US investors told me that they were going to make some big investments in the Subang and Klang areas, which we will announce in two or three weeks' time.

"This is the difference between Selangor and them. Investors come to invest in Selangor, unlike some governments that take our money to the US.

"People of Subang, do you understand what is happening here?" Azmin asked during a meet-the-people event at Kampung Melayu Subang Tambahan.

Although Azmin did not mention names, it was clear that he was referring to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's recent visit to the White House, where Najib made a commitment to help "strengthen" the US economy.

Among others, Najib said the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) was looking to invest US$3 billion to US$4 billion in US equities to support "infrastructure redevelopment" in the US.

Najib also announced that Malaysia Airlines had committed to procuring 25 Boeing 737 MAX 10, plus eight 787 Dreamliners.

This led critics to claim that Najib had misplaced priorities and that charity should start at home.
