Jailed Pakatan Harapan de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim was admitted to Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) today.

His daughter Nurul Izzah and PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli confirmed this with Malaysiakini.

PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil said in a statement that Anwar was rushed to the hospital at 2pm due to unstable blood pressure.

"He is now under doctor's observation.

"He requires intensive physiotherapy due to an old shoulder injury," he said.

According to Bernama, HKL hospital director Dr Zaininah Mohd Zain said that Anwar's hospital visit was scheduled, and not due to any acute condition.

Zaininah said in a statement that Anwar will be kept in the hospital for a few days and will be attended to by a team of specialists.

After his hospital admission, Anwar urged the people to continue striving for change, saying change was "imminent."

"He also reminded the PKR and Harapan leadership to prioritise the people's issues including issues of economic mismanagement which requires solutions," said Fahmi.

Anwar is presently serving a five-year jail sentence at Sungai Buloh prison for sodomy, a charged he maintained was politically motivated.
