MACC has arrested the political secretary to a federal minister from Sarawak after his statement was recorded at the commission's headquarters in Putrajaya this afternoon.

The 61-year-old suspect possesses a “Dato” title and has been serving as the minister's aide since June 1, 2013.

MACC chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad confirmed the arrest in Penang where he attended an anti-corruption programme in Bertam.

"There was a big arrest in Putrajaya today,” he told a press conference.

Dzulkifli said the arrest was made at 12.30pm under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act for allegedly receiving bribes involving RM40 million from a GLC under the ministry.

The case is related to the arrest of four individuals, including the Umno Youth chief of Bagan Datuk, Perak, who is the CEO of said GLC.

According to a MACC source, those arrested included a 58-year-old "Datuk," the corporation’s secretary aged 34, finance assistant officer, 32 and a company director, 38.

The funds were meant to be channelled to a corporation involved in skills training programmes.

Malaysiakini has contacted the minister for comment and is awaiting his response.

Meanwhile, Dzulkifli also did not rule out the possibility of more arrests in relation to this case.

Quizzed on this, he replied, “Wait and see.”

The MACC commissioner said the political aide would be brought to the Putrajaya court tomorrow to seek a remand order to facilitate investigations.
