Hannah pans MCA's 'feeble' defence of below-market price land
Selangor DAP vice-chairperson Hannah Yeoh criticised what she described as a "feeble" defence by MCA, in justifying a land it purchased in SS25, Petaling Jaya at below market price.
Yeoh was responding to Petaling Jaya Utara MCA chief Tan Gim Tuan who said the land was meant to serve the public with a MCA public service hall and learning centre.
The land came under the spotlight after DAP's Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua and Damansara Utama state assemblyperson Yeo Bee Yin revealed that there was an attempt to rezone the land to a commercial one, which would significantly increase its value.

Selangor DAP vice-chairperson Hannah Yeoh criticised what she described as a "feeble" defence by MCA, in justifying a land it purchased in SS25, Petaling Jaya at below market price.

The land came under the spotlight after DAP's Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua and Damansara Utama state assemblyperson Yeo Bee Yin revealed that there was an attempt to rezone the land to a commercial one, which would significantly increase its value.
"MCA must wake up from slumber. In Malaysian politics today, people have access to information.
"A gentle reminder to MCA, corruption will always leave behind a trail. Your past deeds will catch up with you. It is best to admit your mistake and return these lands to the public," she said in a statement.
Yeoh claimed this was not the first time MCA was implicated in obtaining below-market price land.
"In 2013, I exposed a big land scandal in USJ, Subang Jaya involving BN politicians who bought prime land in USJ at 'below market rate' and later sold the properties at market price for profit," said Yeoh, who is also Subang Jaya state assemblyperson.
According to Selangor Times, then Selangor Menteri Besar Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo had in 2001, alienated 99 plots of bungalow land with the size of around 5,000 square feet each in USJ and sold them for between RM8,000 to RM19,000.
Amongst the buyers included Umno and MCA leaders.
Yeoh said each plot of the bungalow land was now worth around RM1 million.
