Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah is free of her charge under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 for organising Bersih 4 rally in 2015.

This follows a five-member bench, led by Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Justice Richard Malanjum, unanimously dismissing the appeal by the prosecution on the issue of jurisdiction.

With this, the Court of Appeal's decision in ruling to strike out the charge still stands, as it ruled that Maria cannot be charged retrospectively.

"We dismiss the appeal as this matter originated in the Sessions Court and should end at the Court of Appeal," Malanjum said...
