Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) looks set to make their maiden electoral foray in Kelantan during the upcoming general election.
Kelantan PSM leader Khairul Nizam Abd Ghani said the party will announce its candidate for the Kota Lama state seat this Saturday.
He told Malaysiakini that a national PSM leader will be making the announcement.
"Our candidate is someone who has been serving the constituency for five years," he said.
According to Khairul Nizam, their candidate will hit the campaign trail immediately after the announcement.
"Apart from the press conference, we will be leafleting in the area to introduce our candidate," he said.
Kota Lama is one of three state constituencies that make up the Kota Bahru parliamentary seat.
The incumbent Anuar Tan Abdullah, is currently in his fourth term, and is the only non-Malay lawmaker in the Kelantan legislative assembly.
The battle for Kota Lama was traditionally between PAS and BN. Recently, DAP has also expressed interest in fielding a candidate for Kota Lama.
Unlike other opposition parties, PSM has been vigorously announcing its candidates in recent weeks.
Presently, the party has only one lawmaker in the form of Sungai Siput MP Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj.
