The police have not changed their position on tomorrow's anti-kleptocracy rally despite the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) giving organisers the green light to use Padang Timur.

"We are firm in our decision and we will not budge...We will not approve the rally," inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

Yesterday, Petaling Jaya mayor Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain said the city council does not need the police's approval to permit Pakatan Harapan to use Padang Timur for the “Love Malaysia, Eradicate Kleptocracy” rally.

However, when asked if action would be taken against MBPJ, Fuzi merely replied that the field is under the council’s jurisdiction.

Police had previously cited traffic concerns as among the reasons why they would not approve the rally, and have warned that action will be taken against the organisers were it to be held.

The rally, which is expected to be held from 4PM to midnight, will feature a host of speakers from the opposition coalition, including chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad and president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

The rally will also see Harapan launch their anti-kleptocracy manifesto.
