Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said the opposition will never be happy with anything he does, including any of the government’s decisions involving Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAS).

“The trouble with them is, everything we do, they take the opposite view. Whether it is right or not, does not matter.

“I was criticised for appointing Christoph Mueller in MAS. (They criticised then) why not local, why foreigner?

“Today when (MAS CEO) Peter Bellow resigned, I was also criticised.

“Now that we have appointed a Malaysian, they should be happy, they wanted a Malaysian in the first place. But that is not right either.

“I tell you, nothing is right, as far as that "old man" is concerned, but actually he is the one who is not right,” Najib said in a Tranformasi Nasional 50 (TN50) dialogue with Chinese youths at Wisma Huazhong today.

He was referring to the resignation of Bellew as MAS CEO earlier this week as well as the subsequent appointment of Captain Izham Ismail as the executive director and group CEO-designate.

Najib has often used the term "old man' to allude to former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is now the chairperson of Pakatan Harapan.

Mahathir has also accused Bellew's abrupt resignation as a result of "interference from Najib".

Bellew, who became MAS CEO in July 2016, would reportedly be returning to the Irish airlines Ryanair.

Before Bellew, Mueller was the MAS CEO and he served in the post for a little over a year.

Mueller joined MAS in May 2015, but quit abruptly in June last year.

Both men had been tasked to turn MAS around after the company went into administration, following the twin disasters of flights MH370 and MH17 in 2014.

Meanwhile, Izham is currently the chief operating officer (COO) at MAS and will assume the role of group CEO on Dec 1, upon the departure of Bellew who is currently on administrative leave.
