Jho Low's yacht in Aceh; Sabahans don't care about 1MDB

KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Jho Low's yacht in Aceh

1MDB-linked businessperson Low Taek Jho's superyacht was spotted in Aceh, Sumatra.

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Malaysia had sought Interpol's help to locate Low.

Zahid later clarified that he did not mean that there was an active search for Low by Interpol.

The Dewan Rakyat rejected at least 10 parliamentary queries related to 1MDB.

Sabahans don't care about 1MDB

Malaysiakini delved into the issues close to the heart of Sabahans, of which 1MDB is not.

Parti Warisan Sabah president Shafie Apdal's remand by the MACC was extended by four days.

Shafie's brother, Yusof, was released on bail from MACC custody.

Rural and Regional Development Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob denied that Shafie was arrested on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's orders.

Spotlight on approvals, guidelines in Penang landslide

The bodies of all 11 victims buried by a landslide at a hillslope development project in Tanjung Bungah, Penang, have been recovered.

The project was not approved by the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry.

Penang mayor Maimunah Sharif said the hillslope project complied with safety guidelines.

Minister Noh Omar dared DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang to tell his son, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, to resign over the landslide.

Penang executive councillor Chow Kon Yeow said it was not fair to ask Guan Eng to resign over the disaster.

Other Kinibites

Umno minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob insisted that PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar's meeting with self-styled Sulu princess Jacel Kiram two years ago was tantamount to treason.

PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli claimed that Felda Investment Corp (FIC) registered a British Virgin Islands company on the same day he exposed that FIC did not own one of the London hotels.

Looking ahead

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will hold a TN50 dialogue with youths to talk about security.

The government is expected to re-table an amended version of the Employees Insurance Scheme Bill.
