Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali will discuss with fellow Pakatan Harapan MPs on the next course of action the opposition should take against Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, over the latter's "U-turn" on 1MDB-linked businessperson's status with Interpol.

Azmin, who is also Gombak MP, said this includes the possibility of referring Zahid, who is also the home minister, to the Parliament's Rights and Privileges Committee.

"Well, I am not sure of the Speaker's stance, whether he will take action or not. I will talk to other Harapan MP's to see the next course of action (including referring to the committee)," Azmin told reporters on the sidelines of the Selangor government's challenge against the Election Commission (EC).

Azmin expressed shock over Zahid's reversal over what transpired in Parliament yesterday, on his question over Low.

He said the position taken by Zahid is clear, where the latter had responded to his question that the police had contacted Interpol to seek its assistance to locate Low, before continuing to say that the police are yet to receive a reply from the agency.  

"If you have not received the final report from Interpol, then how can you say the matter is closed?" Azmin asked. 

"In less than 24 hours, Zahid made a U-turn. I was made to understand from media friends that he (Zahid) was placed under tremendous pressure from the PMO (Prime Minister's Office)."

Azmin further said that what he asked Zahid (photo) was a simple question to determine whether the police had sought assistance from Interpol, and Zahid had replied that the government would. 

The MB said he put out a transcript (on Twitter) of the exchange between him and Zahid, last night so that the people can judge that a "character" like Zahid can represent the government in Putrajaya. 

Azmin said he has not personally checked on the matter with Interpol, due to the lack of access. 

"Who else can we seek answers from if not the minister of home affairs, and this was done in Parliament - not along the corridor or outside. It is in Parliament (and) should be (treated) as the official reply from the government," he said.

It was reported earlier today that Azmin had chided Zahid's denial that the police were actively seeking to locate Jho Low, by taking to Twitter to say Zahid's "attempt at twisting the facts is futile".

"Just look at the transcript. Now, who's faking the news?" Azmin said in response to Malaysiakini's article regarding Zahid's denial.

Zahid yesterday told the Dewan Rakyat that police had sought Interpol's help to locate Low (photo).

However, he later said his remarks had been "manipulated", and clarified that the request for Interpol's help was no longer active as the case files involving Low were closed.

In a subsequent tweet, Azmin asked if Zahid had been "scolded" by his "boss".

Azmin had previously applied at the Kuala Lumpur High Court to compel the police and inspector-general of police to arrest Jho Low.

However, this was dismissed by the court earlier this month after it allowed a preliminary objection by the Attorney-General's Chambers in representing the police.

Meanwhile, Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua described Zahid's denial as a "U-Turn", and this should be clarified in the Dewan Rakyat.

"We call upon Zahid to come to Parliament at the next possible opportunity to provide an official clarification on his answers and subject himself to further questions from the MPs to ensure that (the) honour and respect for the parliamentary institution is redeemed," Pua said.
