YOURSAY | ‘Don’t keep blaming DAP for your own political impotence.’

Umno and PAS are flirting with each other, says Liow

Trueglitter: The apparent disgruntlement of the Chinese-based MCA as a component party within Umno-led BN has been long felt by its members due to the party's failure to stand up to the high-handed Islamist extremism, blatantly practised by Umno leaders.

Regrettably, the said situation has been further exacerbated by various significant inroads made especially by DAP, helmed by a dedicated cum result-orientated leadership which commands expanded followers as well as garnering immense appeal to mainly Chinese voters.

The Chinese community acknowledges the fact that their political rights and privileges have been eroded by contributory weaknesses of its leaders and disparity of treatment by Umno leadership.

MCA president Liow Tiong Lai should now divest his attention from pursuing honorific awards and perks and get on his work bike to toil for the Chinese who deserve his attention.

Aries46: So Liow, is Umno holding MCA to ransom? That unless they get to hold power, whatever the cost to the nation, they will turn us into Afghanistan?

Does this mean that Umno is in effect a potential extremist outfit prepared to bury our independence and constitution for an Islamic theocracy unless the Chinese support MCA?

And where does MCA draw the line in this power play? Doesn't it care about 40 years of racial discrimination and perpetual corruption-riddled self-enrichment of Umno/BN?

Does this mean that MCA is complicit in the alienation and deprivation of the minorities of their inherent legitimate social, educational, economic and other constitutional rights?

And Liow, isn't this the kind of blackmail and bullying that drove the minorities from the powerless BN non-Malay component parties?

If MCA is an equal partner as you claim, why did you allow the apartheid-like discrimination while the minorities were the biggest supporters of Umno/BN even in 2004 when Abdullah Ahmad Badawi broke the all-time BN popular votes record?

So, is this your message - that Umno will uphold the constitution only as long as the Chinese give into whatever garbage dished out and stay subservient to your masters?

Versey: Liow said, “Umno and PAS are ‘flirting’ with each other was the result of the Chinese community's decision to back DAP in the last general election.” This is really pathetic.

Liow, don’t you know that only a weak and useless leader will play the victim to circumstances and blame others for what’s created by none other than your good self and your party?

The Chinese community, whom MCA claimed to represent, had rendered their support to your party since Merdeka, and what did they get in return, other than time and again experiencing humiliation?

MCA being a partner in the federal government didn’t even dare to tell off the “Taliban” preachers, let alone question the 1MDB scandal where the taxpayers’ hard-earned money is being spent to support some scums of the earth’s lavish living.

The rakyat will not stop supporting you without a good reason. Go and figure it out and stop treating the Chinese community as fools.

Don’t you realise that when you blame and criticise others, people can see that you are actually avoiding responsibilities?

Discerning Reader: You do not scare the community to get support. You prove yourself worthy of their support; and what has MCA done for the last eight years to deserve the support that they would expect from the community?

The basic principle is "you show me your ability before you ask for my support and not you support me first and I will show you". You are putting the cart before the horse whereas the horse should be in front of the cart to pull it.

With a handful of MPs who has to struggle through the last election with a majority of votes in the hundreds and a few assemblypersons getting in by the skin of their noses; what claim can you make that MCA is the second biggest party in BN?

RM2.6 Billion Turkey Haram: "I told the prime minister that this country must follow the Federal Constitution, not Islamic law,” said Liow.

Did Najib agree with you? He might say ‘yes’ in front of you, but quietly tell PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang that he is for Islamic law. Between you and Hadi, do you think who he will favour? Remember, PAS and Umno share the same DNA.

The number of Chinese working for the government has been reduced drastically, and opportunities to gain admission into professional courses in higher education institutions are limited. What has MCA done to right those wrongs?

Job opportunities in the government sector are virtually shut for the Chinese. Very often, MCA gives the excuse that Chinese are not interested in working for the government. Where does MCA get that?

SusahKes: In the last GE, MCA made the same veiled threat - they told us they would not accept cabinet posts if the voters rejected them. We all know what happened after that - Liow & Co ran back to Umno with their begging bowls, hankering for cabinet posts.

It is not the failure of Umno that primarily drove voters to the Pakatan bloc; it is the failure of BN’s component parties in reining Umno’s hegemony which did that.

So I guess for all of Liow’s seemingly ‘repentant’ mode when he made the recent ‘Citizens’ video, it is once again proven that this is nothing but mere charade.

And by the way, at least DAP had the guts to be firm with PAS. But what does MCA do? Keep blaming DAP for its own political impotence.

Vijay47: The one person who would be extremely grateful for this speech by Liow would be myPPP chief M Kayveas. Now he can claim that he is not the only sycophant around who blames everybody but Umno for the state non-Malay societies are in.

Both aver that their political masters have always been fair and generous, it is their respective communities who strangely have failed to make use of the countless benefits and opportunities lavished upon them by Umno.

Kayveas' and Liow's special talent is that they can grovel in this manner without batting an eyelid or feeling in the least ashamed.

If the Chinese have discarded you, Liow, as you rightly state, why are you still remaining in the arena playing lackey to a party which has never been balanced in their policies and in fact is rapidly making the situation even worse by injecting religion into the equation?

Liow's message seems to be that making Umno stronger than they already are will make them stop sleeping with PAS and we would all somehow live happily ever after.

Ferdtan: Liow, stop whining if you want Chinese support. When PAS was with DAP, you blame DAP; now PAS is on the same side with Umno/BN, again you blame DAP. Who are you trying to fool?

The only way MCA can win the hearts and minds of Chinese Malaysians is to quit BN as BN is beyond saving. Most, if not all, MCA leaders are in BN because they are self-serving opportunists. Period.
