Hadi: PAS can accept defeat, has bigger goals

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has again stressed that his party's goal is not just to win elections, but to ensure the Islamic way of life is practised in Malaysia.

"The journey for political Islam is not just (about participating in) elections to win power by any means.

"Political Islam also includes dakwah (preaching) and educating the public," Hadi said in a statement today.

PAS has been repeatedly accused by Pakatan Harapan leaders of attempting to play spoiler in the forthcoming general election by refusing to join the coalition's campaign against BN.

Some Harapan leaders have predicted that PAS will fare badly if it refuses to forge an electoral pact.

However, Hadi said PAS' electoral performance was not a major consideration.

"PAS will be patient and is capable of accepting defeat gracefully. (We don't want to) win just for the sake of winning.

"PAS' vision is very wide... we must be steadfast with Islam, through this world and into the next," he said.
