Selangor Umno today celebrated Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's announcement that two tolls in the state would be abolished.

Gathering at the Batu Tiga toll plaza in Shah Alam, the group carried with them Umno and BN flags, as well as banners to express their gratitude to Najib.

Selangor BN chief Noh Omar said the decision to abolish both the Batu Tiga and the Sungai Rasau tolls was the result of Umno's continued efforts since 2014.

"So we, representing the people of Selangor, want to wish a thousand thanks to the prime minister for his announcement yesterday, which I believe will help to alleviate the costs of living for the people especially those who have to go through this way back and forth to work and home," he said.

Besides the Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau tolls, Najib had in his Budget 2018 speech also announced that the government would also abolish the Bukit Kayu Hitam toll in Kedah, and the Eastern Dispersal Link toll in Johor.

Second Finance Minister Johari Abdul Ghani explained that the government will not be compensating the concessionaire for the four tolls, Plus Malaysia Bhd, with cash.

However, he said the government may extend the concession tenure of other tolls operated by the company.
