Umno Supreme Council member Sohaimi Shahadan, who was injured after being stabbed by a neighbour in front of his house in Sungai Buloh near here last night, is reported to be in stable condition and recovering from his injuries.

His aide Ameer Firdaus said Sohaimi, who was stabbed on the head and shoulder, was now recovering at a normal ward at KPJ Hospital in Damansara here.

"The wounds were treated last night and he is much better and able to talk now,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

During the 9.30pm incident yesterday, Sohaimi was said to have gone over to a neighbour's house to inform the parents of a 20-year-old man, who is believed to be mentally ill, that their son was throwing stones at his home, one of which hit his nephew.

Meanwhile, Sungai Buloh district police chief S Somu said police had detained a suspect, who was now in remand for six days to facilitate investigation.

He said police had also recovered a knife believed to have been used in the incident.
