Body of missing M'sian climber found a year later in Iran

The body of a Malaysian climber has been found a year after he went missing while ascending Damavand peak in northern Iran, according to Iranian news agency IRNA.

A climbing team initially found the body of the Malaysian climber on Friday while climbing down the peak.

They reported the find to the Red Crescent Department of Amol city in the northern province of Mazandaran which quickly dispatched a rescue team to the region.

Due to time constraint and darkness, they failed to accomplish their mission on Friday and resumed their search operation on Saturday.

The rescue workers finally found the body of the Malaysian climber on Saturday and brought it down from a height of 4,300 metres, IRNA reported.

The body will be handed over to officials from Malaysian embassy in Tehran later today.

A 12-member group of Malaysian climbers were ascending Iran's highest peak last November when ten from the team decided to turn back at the height of 5,200 metres due to bad weather and heavy snowfall.

The two others, who insisted to continue climbing, went missing.

The body of one of the missing climbers was found following five days of intensive search operations but the operation was stopped because of the dire weather.
