National diver, Nur Dhabitah Sabri was crowned as the Federal Territories (FT) Best Sportswoman at the 2015/2016 FT Sports Awards ceremony tonight.

The 18-year-old athlete beat two other finalists, namely Singapore 2015 SEA Games gold medalist Rachel Mae Arnold (squash), as well as team event champion at the Junior Commonwealth Gymnastic Championship 2016, Tammy Ng Jia Wen (gymrama).

Nur Dhabitah had previously received the 2015 Best Sports Achievement Award from the FT Foundation and the Ministry of Education Sports Awards 2016.

Her excellent performance throughout 2015 and 2016 was one of the factors for the award to be conferred on her.

Nur Dhabitah won the 3m synchronised platform event at the SEA Games in Bukit Jalil in August, and the bronze medal in the 10m synchronised platform event in Glasgow, besides two gold medals, one each in the Myanmar SEA Games 2013 and Singapore SEA Games 2015.

Meanwhile, taekwondo athlete Muhammad Danial Mohd Azri was crowned the FT Best Sportsman at the event.

Muhammad Danial, who bagged a silver medal at the 2015 SEA Games and a gold medal each at the 2014 and 2016 Sukma, had previously been crowned FT Promising Sportsman 2013/2014.

National shot put ace Ziyad Zolkefli (photo) was named the recipient of the Men's Special Paralympic Award for bagging a gold medal and setting a new games record at the 2016 Rio Paralympics.

Ziyad, the T20 para-athlete, also won the bronze medal at the 2016 World Championships in Doha, Qatar, and contributed a gold medal for the Kuala Lumpur contingent at the Sarawak National Paralympics Games last year.

Meanwhile, the national youth squash player, Ng Eain Yow, 19, received the Promising Sportsman Award after contributing a gold medal for Malaysia in the men’s singles event at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games last August, while the Kuala Lumpur Gymnastics Association received the Sports Association Special Award.

All winners received a trophy and cash prize presented by Federal Territories Deputy Minister Loga Bala Mohan.
