Two general clerks from the National Audit Department today claimed trial at the Magistrate's Court in Putrajaya to 235 counts of using the department's Touch 'n Go top-up machine to reload seven cards between them, last year and this year.

Normaidzatulaqma Iskandar, 36, from Putrajaya, faces 166 counts of reloading Touch 'n Go cards between Feb 2, 2016, and April 24 this year, for amounts of between RM1 to RM100.

Meanwhile, Farizah Nekmat, 37, from Bandar Baru Salak Selatan was charged with 69 counts of reloading Touch 'n Go cards between Dec 5, last year to April 24, this year, for between RM1 to RM100.

They were alleged to have reloaded the cards at the office premises during office hours, after office hours and also on public holidays.

By doing so, Normaidzaitulaqma is alleged to have caused the department losses amounting to RM12,000, while Farizah, more than RM6,000. 

They were charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years and a fine upon conviction.

Both were not represented.

Normaidzatulaqma, in asking for a lower bail, said she is a single mother to four children aged between eight and 18, and had to pay the debts of her husband, who divorced her but did not pay any alimony.

She said she was also supporting her mother, who is a pensioner.  

Meanwhile, Farizah said she is married with three children and have to support her parents.

Magistrate Azizah Ahmad allowed bail at RM14,000 with one surety for Normaidzatulaqma and RM8,000 for Farizah and fixed Dec 5 for mention, to allow both the accused to appoint lawyers.

DPP Muhammad Izzat Fauzan appeared for the prosecution.
