A father has lodged a police report calling for a fresh probe into his son’s death at the Sungai Buloh prison.

Ong Ah Chew, 61, told reporters after lodging the report at the Sungai Pelong police station today that he was informed by a prison officer of his 34-year-old son’s death on Monday.

His son, Ong Kok Leong, had been sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment and 10 strokes of the rotan in 2012 for a drug-related offense.

“I saw the body at 2pm the same day at the Sungai Buloh Hospital mortuary and saw red marks around my son’s neck.

“At 5pm, a doctor from the hospital said that my son’s cause of death was a chest infection,” said Ong, reading from the police report lodged.

Ong, however, said he was never informed by anyone including his son about any illnesses.

“He looked fine and did not complain about anything when I last saw him on August 21,” said Ong.

Asked if he suspected foul play, Ong said that he "did not know."

Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng said Ong had sought his help in lodging the police report as he was turned down twice at the Jinjang and Kepong police stations due to various reasons.

“The father wants the cause of his only son's death to be reinvestigated because he is of the opinion that the autopsy report was very brief and he wasn't aware of any of his son's illnesses before the death,” Lim told Malaysiakini.
