Grab Inc (Grab), an e-hailing service provider in Southeast Asia, announced that it has reached one billion ride across the Southeast Asia region.

Grab hit the one billion-ride milestone on Oct 26 with 66 concurrent rides in one second across all seven of its markets in Southeast Asia - Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Myanmar.

In a statement yesterday, the company said that the rapid pace of growth demonstrated the e-hailing service’s enormous untapped potential in the Southeast Asia.

Grab co-founder and chief executive officer Anthony Tan said the achievement was a great testament to the strength of Grab’s business and its management team.

“I am immensely grateful to all our drivers, passengers, investors and business partners for their support,” Tan said in a statement.

“We have dramatically increased the size of our business in such a short time. We not only maintained the same great services but also improved it by continuing to innovate our business, solving local problems and transforming lives through technology,” he explained.

Grab offers private cars, motorcycles, taxi and carpooling services across seven countries and 142 cities in Southeast Asia, with one out of every three passengers using multiple services.

According to the statement, Grab has the largest land transport in Southeast Asia, with more than two million drivers earning 55 percent more than the national average hourly wages on its platform.
