VK Lingam tells court of difficulty in finding counsel

Senior lawyer VK Lingam has written to the Federal Court asking for an adjournment to his review and contempt proceeding, which were scheduled for today, citing difficulties he faced in appointing a lawyer to represent him.

This was informed by senior federal counsel Alice Loke, who appeared for the Attorney-General's Chambers in the contempt proceeding before a five-member bench chaired by Federal Court judge Abu Samah Nordin.

“He (Lingam) wrote in a letter dated yesterday requesting for the contempt proceeding be stayed until his review application is heard. He has also asked for a postponement of the review proceeding to allow him to engage a counsel.

“The review should be fixed by another bench,” Loke said, adding that Lingam was not present today...
