Crane topples in Kg Baru, two slightly hurt

Two people were slightly hurt when a crane toppled at a construction site along Jalan Raja Muda Musa, Kampung Baru at 1 pm today.

Dang Wangi Police chief ACP Shaharuddin Abdullah, who confirmed the incident, said a woman was slightly hurt when running away from the path of the falling crane and fell unconscious on the road. She was sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

“Only two cars were affected by the incident. The construction site is temporarily closed for investigations,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

Motorist Zukri Che Hussien, 57, said the cable of the falling crane hit the roof of his car as he was driving to the nearby mosque.

"I alighted and found the roof damaged and the front windscreen smashed. Thank God, I was only slightly hurt,” he said.

Kampung Hujung Pasir headman Ahmad Kamaruzaman Yaacob, 48, who was having a drink with friends, said he heard the crane falling and saw its cable hit several cars at the construction site.

Meanwhile, Uda Holdings Berhad, in a statement, expressed regret over the incident and said it would take precautions to prevent a recurrence.
