PARLIAMENT | Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said he is friendly with everybody, not just with a particular developer.

Tengku Adnan said this in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday after Teresa Kok (DAP-Seputeh) pointed out that the boss of a particular development firm, which was launched in 2011, was a 'good friend' of the minister.

This firm, Kok said, had secured the contract to develop several affordable housing projects in the city.

"The developer of these 18 apartment blocks, totalling 3,002 units at Taman Desa, is (Malaysiakini is withholding the name), a good friend of the honourable minister," Kok said.

Tengku Adnan interjected,"I am good with everybody. Yang Berhormat (Kok) is upset because I used their overhead bridge LED (billboard) and every festival I will greet them, 'Happy Chinese New Year', 'Merry Christmas' and 'Happy Deepavali'.

"That's why you are upset with me. Don't get upset with me. I am friendly with everybody, even with yourself I am friendly."

The minister said this in response to Kok (photo) when winding up the debate on Budget 2018 for his ministry.

Both Kok and Tengku Adnan had been arguing on the intense development under which Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) plans to build 80,000 units of affordable housing units, dubbed Rumawip, in the already high-density city.

Tengku Adnan had met with Taman Tun Dr Ismail residents, who are suing DBKL for the development of a 29-storey block of affordable housing and eight blocks of high-end apartments on a 4.86ha plot.

Arguing further, Kok even jokingly said: "Since you are so popular, contest in Seputeh (in the coming general election). Come there and listen for yourself what the people talk about your ministry, you and DBKL."

Earlier, Kok slammed DBKL for not continuing its previous practice, where a special session will be arranged between the opposition and the DBKL officers.

'DBKL must continue to meet with lawmakers'

Citing a particular loophole that could not be fixed within six months after the residents filed their complaint, she said DBKL was slow in taking action.

She said the minister should continue the DBKL practice of meeting the opposition lawmakers on development projects.

Tengku Adnan, who is popularly known as Ku Nan, said all the complaints and correspondence between the residents and DBKL would be issued a reference number where the officer in charge would have to respond.

"My officers execute their duties perfectly, so don't simply point fingers at my officers. You never go back to your constituency (to check)," he said.

"Excuse me. I stay in my constituency, unlike you, you don't stay in Putrajaya, but you stay elsewhere," retorted Kok.

"Why I don't want to meet the opposition lawmakers? Sorry, this is the type of attitude… If you change your attitude, we will sit down," Tengku Adnan slammed back.

"You become a stirrer, you incite the people to go against the government. That's what you are doing, that's your problem.

"If we can discuss cordially, Inshallah, we can meet, no problem. But you fabricate something and you vilify what the government plans to do. Sorry, you got to be fair," he added.
