Selangor BN will form a special social media team to counter lies levelled against the ruling coalition and the federal government.

Its chairperson Noh Omar said the team would ensure that the people received accurate information and not be influenced by misleading claims, particularly with the 14th general election drawing near.

“We will launch the team very soon... at the moment we have 16 people who monitor all news and issues written about the party and government,” Noh said at a gathering with Selangor Farmers Organisation Authority (LPP) leaders in Shah Alam last night.

Also present at the event were LPP chairperson Zainal Dahlan and former Selangor menteri besar Muhammad Muhamad Taib.

Meanwhile, Noh, who is also urban wellbeing, housing and local government minister, also reminded community leaders to be alert against false information circulated through the social media.

He said community leaders had a role to play in giving the correct version to the grassroots they served on news or information that had been twisted or manipulated by certain quarters to mislead and confuse the people.

“Fake and disparaging news being hurled against the government and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak are becoming rampant and we want to prevent this,” Noh added.
